The ARES Defense SCR: another AR that’s legal everywhere

Posted May 13, 2014 by muzzlevelocity in AR-15

It seems that an increasing number of manufacturers are attempting to corner a niche market of AR platform enthusiasts who live in a state (like New York) that has banned most or all of the features that make an AR an AR (pistol grip, adjustable stock, flash hider, etc.). The Ares Defense SCR (Sporting Configurable Rifle) is one of the latest players in this new market.

The ARES SCR has a fixed, sporter-style stock (available in three different configurations), a flat top receiver with a rail for the installation of optics, and a Magpul handguard. ARES will initially release the SCR both rifle (18” bbl) and carbine (16.25” bbl) configurations chambered in .223 or 7.62x39mm. The rifle is compatible with most aftermarket AR parts and accessories including magazines and upper assemblies, so an SCR in 6.8 SPC, .300 AAC Blackout, or other chambering is within the realm of possibility.

MSRP starts at $865
